How to (Really) Make Money with Facebook Groups
1. Believe that you can learn how to make money with Facebook groups.
Do you subscribe to the limiting belief that Facebook groups don’t work?
Many of the clients that I talk to think that Facebook groups don't work anymore.
“They are just too saturated, Maria,” they will tell me.
“I heard Facebook groups are dead,” others say.
Maybe they tried it a few times and then it didn't work for them so they stopped.
Lots and lots of people believe that Facebook groups do not work and the funny thing is; it's true for them.
They haven’t been working for you because you don’t know how to make money with facebook groups.
You haven’t had a strategy, you likely have just been blasting posts and hoping it works (or worse, only posting a few times and then giving up.)
The first thing you need to do is to adjust your beliefs and start believing that Facebook groups actually work -- and that they could work for you.
I want you to know that 90% of my clients come from Facebook groups and many of my clients' clients come from Facebook groups, too! Not everyone, but most.
Whether you think Facebook groups work or you think they don't, you are right.
2. Stop obsessing over how a single post performs.
Most female entrepreneurs misunderstand how posting in Facebook groups works. They think that they should just post a few times a week and that’s it.
Also, their ego likely gets a little bruised. “Oh no one really liked my post so this is a waste of time,” they think.
The key solution here is to stop obsessing about how a single post does and look at the cumulative effect of many posts over a month.
Let me give you an example of this:
Let’s say you want to get a few sales calls booked this week. (For the sake of example, let’s say you want 4 discovery calls this week).
So, you make a post offering free strategy sessions. It has a clear call to action (see Tip #3) and a great photo of you (Tp #4).
So, you’ve got this great post ready to go. Now what?
Well, here’s what most people do.
They post to 2 or 3 groups and wait to see what happens.
But what happens?
Nothing.
Maybe they got one person commenting and that’s it.
So they get discouraged and think to themselves, “Facebook groups are too saturated, this doesn’t work.”
They give up because they were focusing on the wrong metric.
They were looking at how a single post does rather than the effects of the posts over a month’s time.
Let me share an important formula with you. (This is an inside secret I usually only share with my clients in my Get More Clients Program).
5 posts to a group = 1 of your desired outcomes.
In other words:
5 posts to a group = 1 discovery call.
No wonder Facebook groups haven’t been working for you! You have been focusing on the wrong thing!
Track your consistent group engagement for one month and see the true cumulative effect that you’ve created.
Just five likes on a post? Cool, well, you’ve hit at least 150 by the end of the month.
Just one comment on a post? Cool, you’ve gotten at least 30 by the end of the month.
Just 1 dm from a post? Cool, you’ve gotten at least 30 by the end of the month.
Stop obsessing over how a single post does, look at the cumulative effect.
3. Be sure to have a clear call-to-action in your post.
Before you even begin to write posts for Facebook, ask yourself, “What is the goal of this post?”
The goal should be specific and measurable.
Here are some examples:
Connect me to 3 other female entrepreneurs
Get 2 people to book a discovery call with me
Receive 3 dms from potential clients
Get 5 ideal clients to engage with me
Notice how these goals are specific and measurable?
Examples of “bad” goals:
Put myself out there
Get people to want to work with me
Show up daily
Increase my engagement
So, once you’ve decided on a goal for your Facebook post, your next task is to determine the call-to-action.
A good question to ask is, “What action do I want them to do after they read my post?”
That action is your CTA, or “call-to-action”.
It goes without saying that these call-to-actions should directly connect with your specific goals for that Facebook post. So, for example, if your goal was to get 2 people to book calls with you, obviously the call to action should be for them to comment below to get a free call.
Bonus tip: always put the call-to-action at the very end and be confident about it! People like being told what to do!
Here are some great examples of strong calls-to-action:
Comment ME below to save your free spot!
Send me a DM to get started!
What do you think? Let me know below!
Shoot me a PM to get it set up!
(Obviously, these are written in my voice and with my style. Feel free to take them and make them your own.)
One of the keys to making money with Facebook groups is having a clear call-to-action.
4. Always use an image of yourself.
Those of you that have kids know that babies love pictures of other babies. Well, it’s pretty much the same for us grownups.
We love pictures of other humans.
It helps us connect to you and it builds more trust.
(And I know I don’t need to tell you that people buy from those they know, like and trust. You have probably heard that a hundred times by now.)
Sharing photos of yourself is one of the most basic ways to build that trust and to allow your audience to start to get to know the real YOU.
Especially in the world of online businesses, it’s crucial that your audience feels like they know you. Oftentimes, you will never meet your clients in “real-life”. So let them get to know you by choosing to share your beautiful face as often as possible.
P.S. Your looks do not matter. We want the real you, flaws and all. Please don’t let your image of what you need to look like prevent us from getting to know you. <3
So, yeah, go ahead and post that selfie. We wanna see it!
5. Limit yourself to 3 emojis.
What a weird rule, right??
(It’s one of the rules in my rapidly-growing community, Successful Female Entrepreneurs. If you want to promote yourself in my group, that’s awesome! Just don’t have more than 3 emojis.)
Clearly, the next question is why just 3 emojis?
Well, let me ask YOU. Which looks spammier:
There is just something about a huge clump of emojis that looks really spammy.
Remember, you are an expert in your field. You are passionate about what you do BUT you are also extremely knowledgable about that.
And, as a professional, your work should be visually polished and professional.
I recommend picking subtle emojis that don’t grab much attention. Emojipedia has a great layout of all the emojis and you can simply copy and paste them.
Also, I have two bonus tips here:
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP USING THE BOLD AND ITALICS ON FB. They are almost impossible to read. I can guarantee you that 80% of your ideal clients are scrolling past your posts because they can’t read them because you’ve bolded half the post. Clearly a pet peeve of mine, haha.
If you want to add line breaks or extra space (whether on Facebook or IG), use this magical tool called Apps For Life. (It’s life-changing.)
Putting in a little effort into the visual side of things will help you make more money with Facebook groups.
6. Write for the 3rd-grade level. (keep it simple).
Here’s something you probably didn’t know; when you write for social media you need to write at the third grade level.
Short and simple.
This is probably one of the most common mistakes I see entrepreneurs make when it comes to posting in Facebook groups; they are writing yawn-worthy dissertations instead of short, easy-to-read posts.
Let’s take a second and get inside the mind of our ideal client; likely she is scrolling Facebook as she waits for her Starbucks order to made.
She’s on the move, she’s busy and she’s scrolling past your heavy, lengthy novels.
The key is to write at a third-grade level.
How do you do that? Run it through a readability test.
I challenge you right now to take your most recent post and see what it scored. You will likely find you are writing at the 9th grade level (or even higher).
Shorten and simplify is the name of the game.
